Here are the top shippers to the US by volume so far this year

As we’ve noted[Chinese Solar Imports Draw Fire], there’s been a surge in solar imports from China that has alarmed advocates for the US domestic industry. Now US solar manufacturers are reported to be preparing a trade complaint.

The table below shows the leaders in shipments of solar modules from China to the US, based on volumes this year through September 15. Alone at the top of the list is Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. (we’re using company names here as they most often appear on the bills of lading). Suntech is well ahead of Nos. 2 and 3, Changzhou Trina Solar Energy and Yingli Energy. All three are Chinese companies. Indeed, Yingli Energy is part of the TianWei Group, itself part of the China South Industries Group, one of China’s state-owned large enterprises.

Hanwha SolarOne is the successor to China’s Solarfun Power Holdings. The enterprise’s name change earlier this year reflects the purchase of significant ownership by South Korea’s Hanwha Chemical Corporation in 2010. Canadian Solar is, as the name suggests, a Canadian company with substantial manufacturing assets in China.
