Out of Luck? Chinese Economy in the Year of the Monkey

The Chinese economy – indeed the world economy – is in for a run of bad luck in the Lunar New Year that begins today, according to feng shui master Chen Shuaifu, who shared his forecast with NBC News.

Master Chen forecasts a big slide in the world economy: “The global economic situation will be terrible and lots of companies will be bankrupted.”

Unfortunately, the available data seems to be aligning with the astrological divination. The World Bank is projecting a continued down trend in the Chinese economy’s growth. And our year-end trade data indicates that, with its imports posting a 15% loss in 2015, China just isn’t buying in the global marketplace.

Still, while Master Chen recommends postponing important financial decisions in the year ahead, it will be a good time to resolve questions of the heart and find love. So Happy Lunar New Year! (and don’t neglect sending a special someone a Valentine’s Day gift).
