Bloomberg Uses Datamyne to Chart Port of Savannah’s Growth

Savannah, the fastest-growing port on the US coast for a decade, is on pace to overtake New York as the top East Coast container port. Savannah’s September imports climbed 21.7% compared with a 7% increase for New York, reports Bloomberg, drawing on maritime import trade data supplied by Datamyne.

Savannah’s path to a world-class port began almost 20 years ago with the construction of a distribution warehouse complex. Today, Savannah is working to deepen its waters to handle the larger ships that will be coming through the expanded Panama Canal. A current marketing initiative aims to capture a share of Southern Hemisphere fruits traditionally shipped to the US through New York.
