While importers have been able to retrieve cargos arriving at Los Angeles and Long Beach aboard Hanjin Shipping vessels, the bankrupt carrier is not accepting empty containers or container filled with export merchandise, as reported by California Apparel News September 15 (updated September 20).
While the ports figure out what to do with the glut of empty containers, the chassis that carry off-loaded containers are getting scarce.
As Apparel News points out (citing Datamyne trade data), the South Korean carrier has been used frequently by big apparel makers such as Hanesbrands, Under Armour, and retailers J.C. Penney and Fred Meyer.
