It’s  Mardi Gras – Fat Tuesday – the final night of the carnival season before the sober season of Lent.

Parade krewes in New Orleans and elsewhere will be tossing, and partiers everywhere will be wearing Mardi Gras throw beads tonight.

The US imported 284 containers  – that’s 4,605 metric tons – of beads for Mardi Gras revels last year. Virtually all from (no surprise) China. Below are the top five Mardi Gras throw beads importers: three based in Louisiana and (surprise!) one in Alabama (Toomey’s Mardi Gras in Mobile) and one in Pennsylvania (Beistle, “world’s largest maker of party goods”).

Wherever you are tonight: Laissez le bon temps rouler!
