EBN Probes Datamyne Import Data for Signs of Weak Economy

US shipping and inventory data – and what it may indicate about the state of the US economy – could dampen any optimism fueled by New Year’s celebration, writes B. Cameron Gain for EBN, online source for news and information about electronics supply chains.

Datamyne trade data indicates a month-to-month slide in import volumes through the fall – traditionally the peak shipping season as retailers ready for winter holiday shoppers.

Whether the missing peak season is a short-term slump or the start of a long-term slide remains to be seen. But the pain is being felt throughout the multimodal transport sector.
