Ports along the US West Coast may be losing market share their East Coast counterparts – led by the Port of New York and New Jersey, according to Port Technology.
Port Technology has been tracking US import cargo throughput using Datamyne trade data. In January-February, the data showed West Coast leaders Los Angeles and Long Beach picking up volumes as they recovered from 2015 losses resulting from labor disputes. But the March data recorded a slump in LA-LB containerized imports compared with March 2015 – perhaps an indicator that any bounce-back effect is done.
