China Looks for LATAM Lift

China Daily’s Santiago correspondent reports that the Chinese ambassador to Chile, Yang Wanming, sees LATAM as a global region of opportunity as weakness in the world’s mature markets persists.

“Latin America is now a strategically important market for China … especially amid the European debt crisis,” he says.

In 2012, a dozen Latin American countries made China’s top 100 list of export markets. The table below shows China’s share of each country market’s imports, the value of its Chinese imports, and China’s ranking as a source for imports.
